Slipperydick Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Just wondering what the bass is in this vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBHxBzUAHi8 Quote
TheGreek Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 the only real good look you get is at 1:24 - 1:27 - hard to see any logos - 1980 seems a bit too early for it to be a modern Ibanez which it resembles. Got me stumped!! Note: it's not Wilko Johnson on guitar!! Quote

Reminds me of one or two of those lower-end basses like Tune or Bass Collection... again though, it might be a bit early for them. Who's the bass player? Quote
Cat Burrito Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011
Note: it's not Wilko Johnson on guitar!!
It's Gypie Mayo and he now lives in Bath where he teaches guitar. The bassist is the original guy John B Sparks but I haven't a clue on the bass Quote
Slipperydick Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 I wondered if it could it be an old Baldwin or maybe Burns ? Quote
Old Horse Murphy Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 A bit off-topic but I've just managed to get 2 tickets for this years Lee Brilleaux Memorial Show in Canvey Island Quote
ezbass Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 That looks like an old Bass Collection head but I don't think they were making basses back then. Could be a homemade or custom jobbie. Quote
Bassassin Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Definitely not an Ibanez, or any other JapCrap from that era that I'm aware of. Some quite interesting details - looks like a very narrow fingerboard, almost parallel. I'd also suggest it's probably not a bolt-neck because there's little "overhang" for a neck pocket. Tuners look like Schaller M4S of Grover Titans - both were quite common on basses from this era. Strange-looking bridge - it looks very short, suggesting through-body stringing, but it's hard to tell from such a brief glimpse. Anyway, that's all apropos of nothing, dunno what it is but I suspect it's a custom job. Jon. Quote
