Shire
Afternoon all Can anyone recommend me a shop where I can buy a replacement pickguard for my Fender Highyway 1 Precision please? I'm after a tortoiseshell one if that helps. Also, are the cheaper ones crap because shelling out over £40 for an official Fender one makes me feel a bit ill... If you know a decent Fender replacement guard, let me know. Thanks in advance!
Shire
No-one? Come on, you must have all replaced the boring white one on your Fenders?
Clarky
WD are good. Just give them a call to check which pattern the HW1 needs: http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/category/Pickguar...r_Basses,b.html
endorka
I was looking for a replacement pickguard for 5 string Squire Precision - complicated by the fact it has jazz style pickups. There were quite a few places selling them, but I could never establish whether they would fit or not! In the end I postponed the search due to confusion :-) Jennifer

They usually fit but the holes for the screws might be in a different place. Edited January 14, 2011 by Jerry_B

dave_bass5
As Clarky says, WD will sort you out. One problem (or something to watch out for). If you have a HW1 make sure you get the HW1 pickguard. If you have a HW-one get a MIA pickguard. I waited for almost a month for them to get me a HW-one PG for my Jazz, only for it to turn up as a HW1. It seems they dont know the difference and dont have a HW-one (at least they didn't a few months back). The truss rod adjustment is at different ends of the neck so a HW1 PG will cover the slot on a HW-one. I ended up putting a MIA PG on and its perfect. I cant vouch forthe P pickguards but im pretty certain it will be the same as for the Jazz. Oh, and is my old HW-one with a WD pickguard on it. The photo's dont do it justice but yes, it looks pretty cheap. For something better Sims custom shop will make you one thats a perfect fit, in the colours/finish you want but these dont come cheap IME. Cat Burrito
I don't know about the best but I find EBay is always best for pickguards. Often I get them shipped over from US sellers from EBay. I was able to get a white 51RI pickguard to replace the matt black one and learnt through searching that simply getting a Mike Dirnt one wouldn't fit so easily. They don't appear to have a HWY1 pickguard listed at the moment but there are 8 pages of alternatives from international sellers
