KingPrawn Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) I bought this back in March from one of our fellow Bass Chatters. It is in Excellent condition. The only change is is no longer has wizard pickups, i replaced with Seymour Duncans, which really enhance the sound. Here is the original info from the original Post. It is such an easy bass to play. brilliant Jazz sound to some great deep smooth sounds. It has such a distictive sound. I would encourage those intrested to come over and try it out.. It has one small scratch and a crack in the scratch plate ( see photos) £265 This is another of my 'really nice' bass's, 80's Tokai Jazz sound in beautiful condition. Tokai Jazz Sound '60s-Style Bass in Candy Apple Red Upgraded Bridge & New Strings Excellent Condition If you know about Tokai basses, you'll be aware the Jazz Sound is (along with the 'P-Bass' Hardpuncher counterpart) their most sought after 'Fender' model and represents basses of the highest and consistent quality. If you don’t know about Tokai guitars then the company’s quality is renowned as being second to none and considered by many professional players to be equal to (and frequently exceeding) that of the American original counterparts made at the time. Tokais have a devoted following worldwide, most evident through the Tokai Registry (link below), and in the past few years their instruments have become highly collectable and sought after, particularly in both the UK and US markets. High-end Tokais are now consistently recognised as genuine classics and frequently termed the ‘Second Golden Age’ by the various specialist music journals. http://www.tokairegistry.com/index.html This bass has been very well looked after throughout its life and as can be seen from the photos, it is in great condition for its age. I would rate it at 9/10. The neck is straight and true, currently with action set to low/medium, and all frets are in great condition with no signs of needing any work whatsoever. This is the Jazz Sound model with the Tokai designed headstock - as made popular by The Police's Andy Summers who used Tokai Breezysound Teles for many years. From the Tokai Registry site, it appears to be characteristic of the company's mid/late 1980s models. It also fully guarantees that it really is a Tokai and not a re-transferred Hondo, Columbus, Satellite etc (anyone who grew up with those will know exactly what I am talking about!) - there are Tokai decal transfers sold on ebay so watch out for those! Having looked through the Tokai Registry dating/ID information, 1985/6 seems the time of the 'Lawsuit' headstock.......... paulbkeeves Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011
Price drop £ 315 ..
A very lovely bass indeed! I played this a few weeks ago and it's totally fab!!! Now where's my piggy bank....
KingPrawn Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 OK major price drop £ 285. Any takers?
danbowskill Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 cana belive this is still here what a bargain....these are very very good basses- sorry dude i so wish her indoors would let me have it :-( someone buy it!
zigmondo Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I rarely lend my voice to bumping: sometimes there are tacit omissions of detail that are left out so as to suggest to the unwary they are getting a good deal whereas in fact they are not. This is most definitely the reverse: (I have no vested interest or relationship with the seller, it must be said!) I played one of these a month ago and was totally unsurprised when it was snapped up for a mere £450. To see this bass going for £285...my goodness, like Dan above I can scarcely believe what an excellent deal this is.
paulbkeeves Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 This is such a lovely bass (I've played it), I cannot believe what an amazing bargain it is and no one has snapped it up yet! If I wasn't saving for some other kit I'd buy it right away. Have a bump from me!
