bass_ferret
This bass is turning into a right old slapper!
bass_ferret
Told Bernie about this Obviously the King Bass is not up to scratch and you should keep the EBS and order a 5 string GB sharpish. I dont understand the string problem with this bass. Status do bouble ball sets from 30-115 through to 50-135. Its a Status bass and if you bought it new i guess it would have Status strings on it. And they are good strings. I also dont understand why you absolutely had to get rid of a perfectly good GB for half what you paid for it. Did it not go low enough? Did you have to play basslines you could not possibly play on a 4 string?
ian
I think you must be on commission or something . Your a bit like the GB informant Why do you feel the need to start ringing bernie ?what does it matter to him what i do. i dont think hes bothered what i do to be honest. The status is a great bass and i mean a great bass and i havent said 100% that i would want to get rid . and yes the GB was a great bass and yes i do wish i had not got rid of it.But at the time i needed to sell both my basses to fund the status which i dont regret one little bit .Its a lot of bass very fast action great tones and great wood. if i really want to get another GB ill wait and spend more time over woods colour etc and dont forget i did not have the upgraded electronics iver in mine STRINGS As far as the strings thing like i keep saying on a king bass in my opinion 30s to 115 works best for me not everyone me on this bass. thanks once again john for your comments ian www.myspace.com/iandobbinsbass tour dates etc Edited January 24, 2008 by ian
trevthebass
hi ya ian would you take £1300 for the status cash, where are you based ?
bass_ferret
As it happens I was collecting a bass and Bernie showed me your old bass and how great it looks with a new scratch plate. He has a buyer lined up for it. Maybe its my bad, but I still dont understand why you cant use Status Hotwire double ball 30-115 sets if that is what you want. OutToPlayJazz
I think what Ian was saying originally was that he loves the feel of the 30-115 sets for the KingBass and it's what the instrument runs best on, but he's used to playing on much heavier guages. I'd imagine the instrument does run equally well on heavier guage strings, but I'd have the action re-set up by Rob at the Status factory to maintain the same feel. (I adjust action on all my basses, except for Status basses, which I always leave for Rob to adjust - After all, the maker sets them just right... EBS_freak
Woah. A bit of ferret/ian friction here. Chill it geezers. Bassing is about finding stuff that you like, you make mistakes along the way! You live and learn. Good luck with sale ian and hope you get what you are looking for, whatever shape it may take! I'm sure you'll have no problem shifting this, there are a lot of Status King bass fans out there!
