There was some discussion of this in a thread a while back on basschat - apparently it was for a Fender ad and he was annoyed at having his photo taken so perversely picked up a bass instead of a guitar.

That bass is so cool, humble dots and no fancy block inlays, sunburst with the vintage looking chrome, I've a 50th anniversary jazz bass in the same style

It's not. I thought that too but it belonged to Dylan's bassist at the time Harvey Brooks.

A great shot and I have a copy of this photo hanging up in my living room I also have a shot of Danko using his one with the Band too. I love it!
