I can play slap bass, but over the last couple of years I've toyed with double thumbing. I'd really like to learn it, but can't seem to stick to a lengthy practise regime. I just keep thinking: 'Is it really necessary?' Maybe I'm just a bit long in the tooth.

Anyone else found this when attempting to master a new technique?

I'm still trying to master the old technique.

Every the technique that I use was new at some point. It's just a matter if repetition and ultimately becoming
comfortable enough to use it without too much,if any, effort. I tend to get the basics down within about an hour, then it's all about refining it. Like everything else,I may never use it on a gig,but it's ready to go if it's needed.

i cant double thumb, would love to be able to, maybe soon...much more efficient..

but from experience (as all others)different techniques really dont take that long with patience, (some longer than others) and taking it slow.. methodically.. another feather in your cap and all that Pete..

It allows you to leave your fingers available for plucking.

Whenever I see Doddy doing this technique, I think I'll learn it, but then I think: 'Can I be arsed?'[/quote]if you like it, why not make it worth your while.... my dad used to say 'whats worth doing is worth doing well'..

I'll bear that in mind and try again. :)
