Stroopy121
Greetings, I've spend the afternoon having a poke around for some random, obscure vintage basses. Found this guy and loved it, if it were a 4-string (and I wasn't so earth shatteringly broke) I'd buy the hell out of it! Hagstrom F-800 Had never heard of the make until now, are there any other wierd and wonderful old bass makes that are less heard of? I really want to get my hands on an old bass but don't have a few grand to shell out on a decent nick p-bass, although this is making me swoon so hard! '78 P Bass, Antigua Finish So yeah, any oldies that may have passed us whippersnappers by? xx Edited January 24, 2011 by Stroopy121

MythSte
Well known on here, but maybe not in the general day to day of bassiness, the Peavey T-40 is along similar lines.

EDIT (nearly three years later!): This topic suddenly re-surfaces, Lazarus-like (Lazarus was a submarine you know), and there's this photo of a footballer with a mysterious reference by me. And I'm thinking, like, wow dude, that's like really really obscure. And then I realise that's not the photo I originally linked to. I can't see how having your fretboard vibrating loads at a certain note would ease your playing.

Stuee
Oh I seeee! I thought you'd actually physically found one. I've been after one of these for a while, but I'm not getting one I haven't touched, especially when you've gotta pay import duty, VAT and everything else. Interesting though, ta! I wouldn't either to be honest, you can read all the blurb you want about a bass but you don't know if it fits 'till you've tried it on! xx

KevB
The Antigua finish doesn't look so bad if it stays on the grey side (like the one posted by a BC'er) but a lot (like the one on ebay seems to be doing) start acquiring some off-green type shade which looks like something vaguely rotting. Not my preferred colour scheme I'm afraid...
stingrayPete1977
Our Guitard has 2 Hag's (3 if you count his wife! only kidding shes nice enough) one early 70's and one new version, The old ones a beauty. ABBA are your obvious Hagstrom weilders BTW
Happy Jack
Strangely enough, it has a lot to do with the scratchplate. If you have an Antigua finish with a matching Fender scratchplate, it looks sort of olive greenish and (IMHO) not very nice. If you have an Antigua finish with a black scratchplate (like my Alleva Coppolo), it looks really cool and interesting. A bit like me, really. Sort of olive greenish, but actually really cool and interesting.

Mykesbass
Old Hagstroms, Ovations and Guilds are the only things that get my GAS up. Never going to go the vintage route as I'm so incompetent I can only really play 5 string basses
3below
In my memory (failing I admit) I remember thinking the Antigua finish looked the dog's bllx at the time - I would have swapped my sunburst precision for an Antigua finish. However it was the late 70's early 80's so taste was optional. These days I quite like sunbursts - how my taste has changed from my youth.
