Markus Wilson Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 First time on the forum so i dont know if this sort of thread has been done but. What is the most valuable piece of advice you would give to a student or novice of the instrument? Mine would be; Play with as many and as varied styles and types of musician as possible, even if you feel you are more advanced in ability than them, you always have something to learn. Markus Quote
Spike Vincent Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Be friends with the drummer. Do as much recording as possible. Quote
RhysP Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Don't waste hours/years of valuable practice time hanging around on internet forums. Quote
Wally Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 If you turn up drunk, make sure you chewed a packet of mints before hand. Proceed to tell the band you had a small stroke half and hour ago and refuse to go to hospital till the gigs over. Only, and only, when you fall into the drumkit should you lie still and ask for an ambulance. You gain much kudos for your commitment to the cause rather than a sacking for being a bum.Caution: never works more than twice on the same people. Tip: Can also work at work if you swap drumkit for photocopier or fork lift truck. Quote

Lfalex v1.1 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Give up now before; You have to buy a bigger car. You ruin your back. You permanently empty your wallet. You go deaf. You get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. You die from drowning in a pool of your own vomit. Need I go on? Quote
bassbloke Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 (edited) Don't expect any attention from members of the opposite sex. The only audience member to have any interest in you will be the sad old fart that wants to discuss bass gear. Edited January 25, 2011 by bassbloke Quote

tom1946 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Yeah, don't stand there plonking away at practice while people are talking, it's bloody annoying. The guy before me used to do it when I was guitarist. Mind he was an ignorant twat. Quote
Low End Bee Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Be nice to the sound man. Don't write the set list in hi-lighter pen (I know someone reasonably famous who did this) Quote
Doddy Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Learn to read. It'll open up so many more doors than using solely your ear-from educational material to gigs. Quote
