I cant find any posts saying people have as yet changed the pickguards..more planning to than have done.

Will happily be proved wrong as i want answers :)
I've got a tort Fender 62 pickguard, but it is definitely not a straight fit. It'd need some work around the neck pocket and I don't think the holes would line up too well.
Temptation.

Or do I just chuck a new set of Ernie Balls on my P bass n Wizard Thumpers?
Or do I save up, sell both my basses n buy a used fender special, or MM SUB?

Decisions, decisions! I'm never quite sure what I aught to do.

Probably first option. Probably. :)
First one!!! :)

The neck pocket never fits - I suspect they always cut them slightly too small to allow it to be sanded to fit all neck widths snugly.
That suspicion aside though, being too small isn't a problem - 30 mins with a bit of sandpaper will soon fix that!

As for the screw holes, even Fender move those around (MIM/MIA).
Again, no big deal, fill the old ones with woodglue and matchsticks and drill some new ones - you ain't gonna see it under the scratchplate are you? :)

Ah.
A chemist.

One of those professions where "oops!" as a technical term isn't hugely encouraged... :)

Being 'hopeless' at DIY is what every one of us is or has been - until we start doing it and get some experience!
There's really no better feeling than standing back at the end of it and saying "I did that and it looks bl@@dy good!"

Actually, it is a perfect fit to both a MIJ Squier and an SX.

Sure, it's easy enough to make it work with some elbow grease. Just saying it isn't clear cut.

The neck pocket on mine, with the original neck since ditched, was a great fit.

Don't automatically assume you'll need a new pickup, mine sounds really good.

I've got a white pearloid scratchplate and I know that it'll take some work to get it to fit.

From 'Nick'
The other thing is, out of curiousity I put an old black scratchplate from a Tokai up to it, to see if it would fit. From what I can see, it wouldn't be a major modification to fit a P-Bass scratchplate - just a bit of trimming around the neck area.
I'll let you know how I get on but I'm awaiting new pots before I go for it.

Was gonna get one to bastardize then the Mrs remembered the phone bill was due, so the money we could have used was kept for the bill. Phones up today to pay the bill and we're £4 in Credit WTF how does that work out. Turns out they used the deposit put down when we took out the contract to pay the bill with out telling us.

And now they are outta stock . TYPICAL
I've seen Aria STB basses go for £40 or so second hand on ebay. Pickup only. If I wanted something really cheap, I'd go for one of those. Maybe.

What about the Johnny Brook basses? I've seen good reviews for them, though usually after someone has bought them and done a full setup and dressed the frets and this and that and ...... Available for even less than the Sue Ryder basses, though perhaps the postage will make the difference.

I searched for the Johnson basses that were blown out at £60 or so second hand some time ago. I found these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Darren-Johnson-Dispo...=item1e6172791a

WTF?

It wasn't so much about buying *any* cheap bass. I don't need another bass :)

But the Sue Ryder turned out to be quite nice and a good substrate for modification (a hobby of mine, and why not?)

It seems unless someone decides to sell theirs on, I'm out of luck.
