I managed a body and the initial shaping of a neck inc truss rod and never worked with wood before .

Def If anyone is thinking of a mod project look through the build threads here and on other forums. I thought it was going to be beyond my abilities after giving it a go and doing a bit of practice on some scrap bits I was well chuffed. The only thing stopping me doing more is lack of grip and a spinning router bit aren't compatible.

The TDPRI in the home depot is the best place I think to go to get the courage up.
That's nice to know. I've been toying with the idea of playing around with wood, but I don't really have any experience with anything that isn't a jigsaw or a radial saw. It might just be the push I need.

Those things are evil.
I almost lost a finger using one of those - I was lucky enough to just end up with a decorative scroll edge.

Hey Oli!

I'm thinking of a scratchplate first, I have a spare pearloid and it'll look amazing on the sonic bloo.

I have a spare Mex pickup but to be honest I don't think it'll be any better than the one that's on :)
Other than that I will get a pot and wiring kit off egay and go from there, but there again the pots are fine, very progressive so why bother? I'd be doing it for the sake of doing it...

Think I'll pop down for a white one now :)

Just as a brief aside, I happened to be in a Sue Ryder shop this morning and the Stratocaster they had in the window had THE most amazing quilted maple fretboard - it really was 3D. What's going on?

Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff, in anyone is interested. I have too many guitars as it is.

Wish I hadn't looked at this thread now, just pulled the trigger on a white tele. Will save me doing all the weird mods I was going to do on my old 70s jap one, which I can now skip/sell for funds.

My White P was waiting for me when I got home today and was out the box like a shot !

What a great little bass for the money. Had I paid 3 times the price, I dont think I would have been dissapointed.

This one does need a decent set up. The string height is terrible. I think some Black Nylons would look just great against the white body & scratch plate.

If anyone finds a replacement scratch plate that fits without mods, please let me know. A nice Tort would look so good.

Sound wise, no complaints through the Hartke Kickback 12. Will pump it through the Markbass rig tomorrow.

If anyone is dithering about getting one of these.... STOP, go get one :)

That's what I'd like to know. Although it's not like it makes much of a difference now, since one's one the way anyway.

Just got mine. Apparently it had been languishing in a neighbour's shed for most of the day :) ......

Unwrapped it, given it a quick going over. Obviously needs a set-up & a decent set of strings, but it really is not a bad bass - quite pleasantly surprised. I like the neck profile, whilst not being quite as deep as I like, it's not too shallow (for me) like a lot of modern basses. The nut on mine seems to be cut bang-on, which is unusual on budget basses. Frets are big & chunky, can't see a need as yet for them to be dressed etc on mine... pretty good.

The pickup isn't bad sounding, got bit of bark to it. Its not that high output @ 8.4k, but (to my ears it) seems to have quite a nice tone - so it'll stay. All the other hardware; bridge, tuners, pots are more than adequate - no worse than a Squier.
Think the only thing I'll look at on it (apart from usual set-up) is the tone pot. It doesn't do a lot at present, will also put a PIO cap in there.

I quite like the quirky headstock & the monogramed pickguard looks cool with sonic blue IMO - it's 'low budget kitsch' :)

Gonna put some black nylons on it & gig it next weekend.

Well worth the money.
