Thurbs
Hi all. My tutor has a DB in the corner of his room and yesterday during my lesion we had an hour on it... I have to say I really enjoyed it. After about 10 minutes we were jamming some 12 bar blues and I was really getting in to the swing of it... We did mostly pizzicato but I did get the bow (French) and have a go at some arco... Intonation was not as hard as I had feared as I play fretless sometimes so am used to playing by ear and position without reference... it is just a larger scale neck... Anyway... I could go on but suffice to say I am a convert and am scouring the internet land for my first DB! Regarding size... I used a 3/4 and it was fine... but being of slightly... ahem... bigger build would a 7/8ths or 4/4 bring any advantages or noticeable disadvantages? Bilbo
Most jazzers play 3/4. I am told that a full size bass feels a LOT bigger than the one you have played and are harder to get around on for some more centemporary genres. Most basses you will see at jazz gigs are 3/4 size so please don't feel that a 3/4 is in some way 'lightweight'.
Thurbs
Just on my way to look at a 3/4... for £2.5k... do you think I can get it past the wife... it is just a big violin after all
leroybasslines
Tell her it's a thing of beauty and therefore counts as interior design. What's the bass? Do you have any pics?
