LethalLion Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Teaching my brother how to play, and I want him to learn songs that actually get his fingers moving, as opposed to just playing root notes. Can anyone think of anything fun to play, that would fit in with this? Cheers. Quote
geoffbyrne Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 China Girl - Bowie - isn't too difficult chord/notewise, but sure keeps the fingers busy!! G. Quote
Michaelg Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) This is a brilliant song to start off with. lojo Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) Strangely enjoying Time after Time, cyndi lauper, very simple pop tune, but a very pleasing song to play with the group i just jammed it with, feel has to be right Perhaps considered cheesy 80s though Edit: just read your post properly and suggest .. Long train running - doobie brothers Walking bass or riffs over 12 bar blues is a good practice root, make it up, add as many or as few notes as you like over a simple progression Edited January 28, 2011 by lojo Quote
Bloodaxe Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) Pretty Woman: Born Under A Bad Sign: Parisienne Walkways (essentially a Circle of Fifths): You could lob Comfortably Numb in there too, mostly just roots but there's scope to get inventive. Edited January 28, 2011 by Bloodaxe Quote

Both are simple but have plenty of room inside. The blues is quite slow. Nice stuff, too. Quote
flyfisher Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 I used to like practicing to Ramblin' On My Mind from Clapton's EC Was Here album - a nice slow blues to play around to but with a number of key changes thrown in for a bit of variety. Quote
