Cat Burrito
It's Rob Grill from The Grass Roots miming along to a session bass players excellent bassline but what is the Hofner but bigger-esque bass?
Bassassin
I'd say Eko 995. Jon.
Cat Burrito
That'd be it. Cheers Jon
Jean-Luc Pickguard
Looks like an eko Violin bass - last time I was at brandoni in wembley they had a bunch of new old stock 60s bodies & necks from these from the old eko factory http://brandoniguitars.co.uk/ekogtr.asp
Cat Burrito
I'm tempted & there is a cheaper one on EBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Violin-bassguitar-ea...=item439d8bb475 but must resist
Bassassin
Guy reckons the Ebay one's an Egmond, made in Holland. It's rough & ready but I did wonder at the £225 BIN - the Eko ones can push 4 figures! J.
geoffbyrne
Back in the 60s, our bassist had one of these (all recorded about 1963/64): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EKO-BASS-VINTAGE-MAD...=item5adeb0ed96 You can see it in some pics here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS_yOrMHQ0U That's not the best one, but it is in the pic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3JuUjvn5fw...feature=related long shot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_pt4FHdbzA&NR=1 perfect shot here These were pretty much recorded on an old Grundig tape-to-tape with the one original mic in a garage - were we the original garage band? Behind John you can see his Fenton Weill bass amp with its featured 'Kick-Proof Grill' - 30 Watts, I think. G.

If you really want Hofner-esque goodness, prices for real vintage Hofners now are about where they were in 2007 ... when the market finally starts to recover, you won't see that again for a while. geoffbyrne
In 1966, at the Dam Park in Ayr, the Yardbird's Paul Samwell-Smith told me he'd never used an amp (up to that point) more than 15W. That was the day Eric Clapton told me to 'F**k Off!!!!' Ah, those were the days!!!! G.
