waynepunkdude Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 When you first started playing did you realise the body was made out of wood? I didn't Quote
mep Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Err yeah! The first bass I played had cheap and nasty sunburst finish and the second was a Gibson copy with varnished wood. The wood grain gave it away both times. Also I was not daft enough to think they were made of plastic. No offence. Maybe you bought one of those plastic toy guitars that played themselves or whatever they did? BTW how old were you at the time, what bass was it & when did you realise it was made of wood? Quote
Spike Vincent Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) Errrr yes,I knew my bass was made of wood. What sort of wood a Kay EB copy was made if is open to debate though.. Edited January 29, 2011 by Spike Vincent Quote
hillbilly deluxe Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Yes,it was a Hagstrom,cherry finish. Quote
PURPOLARIS Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 At no time have I ever thought a guitar was made from plastic.....................well, apart from those plastic guitars you buy in toy shops Quote
Musky Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 My first bass was one of these, so yes I knew that it was wood. What I didn't realise was that wood could be so heavy! Quote
Clarky Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Looks like you're on your own on this one Wayne PS, the moon is not made of cheese - fact Quote
KiOgon Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) My Dad was a carpenter so I knew from very early days what was wood & what wasn't, not to mention my first bass guitar was hand made, out of WOOD that my Dad selected specially for the job To be fair - when I was a lad - I'm not so sure that Plastic had been invented Edited January 29, 2011 by KiOgon Quote

Probably from recycled Maccaferris: NB: Tuner placement requires semi-reverse post-winding technique Edited January 29, 2011 by skankdelvar Quote
waynepunkdude Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Are you telling me the body looks like wood to the un-trained eye? Quote

deaver Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 If it's in any consolation my second (or third) bass was a Burns Flyte. I was convinced it had a plastic body and an aluminium neck. I'm still not entirely sure Quote
