Anyone can carry a 25kg cab, no need to make it lighter especially when you consider the cost of the material Quote

It will flex in a different manner to ply, setting up resonances in different areas of the sound spectrum. Far easier to trial and error a design with ply than Nidacore I'd think, and there's another possible big difference really – ply looks so much easier to work with. Could be wrong though. It's certainly an interesting material, and just out of curiosity I'd love to hear a Big One made from it. Got me thinking about domestic Hi-Fi- speakers or studio monitors now. I would suggest that the Big One was sufficiently light that the size was the bigger issue - 41lbs isn't exactly hard work to move. I'd also suggest that if you're using a double bass the Big Baby is going to be easily loud enough - give it some real power and it kicks out as much bottom as a good 4x10" - which takes the weight down to 33lbs and it's much smaller too. As cool as a transparent cab would be in theory, you have to take into account that any properly designed cab will be thoroughly lined with damping material, which isn't terribly pretty. Like having a transparent ceiling in your upstairs rooms - do you really want an unhindered view of your loft insulation? The exception is long folded horn subs - they don't need damping because the folds act as a lowpass filter, and they would look really cool with all that complicated enclosure on show! Quote

For me, that is, not everyone can carry the same amount comfortably of course. Would I have liked it to be half the weight again? Er, yes! Who wants to carry weight if you don't have to? That's all the first customer example does! I'll be interested to see how light this cab ends up - I've always been a fan of composites, did my degree thesis on them. Quote
