yorks5stringer
Apologies if this has come up before but whilst lurking on a US Bass site I saw mention that SX Basses were available in Europe under a different brand name. Whilst I know UK Bassists are already doing personal imports, does anyone know what brand they use over here please?
paul h
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's Jim Deacon, and you can only get the starter packs. P. EDIT: Just checked at http://www.jimdeacon.co.uk/index.html and they do a few different basses. Not sure if the FP series are SX under a different name, but they only have one bass listed as SX. Edited January 24, 2008 by paul h
paul h
I emailed the guys at http://www.teamintlco.com/ just last week to see if there was any chance of me getting one direct. No joy, they only sell to distributors. I even offered to buy 10 of them! Still, getting them from Rondomusic works out cheap enough! P. yorks5stringer
Yes, the SB series under the Jim Deacon Brand look like the SX basses you can see on ebay but it was the 5 String Jazz type I was interested in.

OldGit
I went around this loop as well The Jim Deacon 62 rosewood sunburst P bass is nice and as good as the SX's I've tried. http://www.jimdeacon.co.uk/Products/Basses/FPB62.html They are selling for about £130 here. I also tried to get the SX manufacturer them to ship them direct to me in the UK but no luck. The Spanish guy doesn't reply. The Irish one does but he's the same price as Rondo when you factor everything in, and has less stock or choice. They must be aware of the interest here though. The UK distributor of SX basses does the non-fenderish ones and the packs (avoid!) but isn't going to bring in the nice ones .. Maybe we shoud lbe pestering him. OldGit
This looks a lot like an SX Jazz ... £130 (+ VAT + £10 P+P) ... works aout about the same as a Rondo import with SX on teh headstock ... eBay shop Item number: 290199640618 Link Here Edited January 25, 2008 by OldGit

They have that good looking photo flame quilt finish Jazz with the gold hardware too .. but it's got 21 frets - normally those are the ones in packs that are not as good... based on my expeience of one of those and three 20 fret ones .. paul h
Richwood have been around for a while...and used to be a bit pricer than most SX's. Their website has been "under construction" for a long time now, but I remember when it was live. They had a gorgeous semi called a "Hunter" IIRC. They were all over ebay a couple of years ago. In fact, while writing this I have found http://stores.channeladvisor.com/dangleber...Other%20Basses/ £150 all-in for a P copy. I think I bought something from these lot years ago. P. Edited January 25, 2008 by paul h
Jamesemt
With all this talk of SX basses, we should maybe think about a group buy from Kurt (Rondo)...I mentioned this to him before and this was his reply: 'Yes I am happy to do a group buy - but honestly don't have time to arrange it. The basses come in boxes of 6 (guitars as well) - weight for 6 is about 55 lbs' Read into that what you will... yorks5stringer
Would there be a financial advantage in a group buy? They would have to be posted to one UK address and then sent out again to each buyer. So any discount in buying 6 would have to offset the additional cost of posting out in UK, unless of course the group buy was geographically close. I'm assuming they would mix a box of 6 or is it just 6 of the same type and colour? If there's anyone in Yorkshire/Lancs up for it: I'm in for a LPB JB 5 Stringer Edited January 29, 2008 by yorks5stringer

Hamster
I'm half tempted by the 3-tone sunburst with quilted maple top fretless. Hamster
Jean-Luc Pickguard
I quite fancy one of the 30" scale LPB jazzes - It'll make me look like I'm taller.
yorks5stringer
I've just spoken with Kurt... Good news and bad news I'm afraid, bass people. The bad news is that the 6 basses would have to be all the same type and style ( no mixing 4 and 5 strings or Jazz and PB's) although they could be different colours: he is not sure how he could post such a large parcel to UK: and there would be no quantity discount. So the good news is you can go and buy one yourself in the type, style and colour you wish!
