niceguyhomer Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 OK they've been out for a while now, how are getting on with it? Good points and bad points warmly received... Quote
niceguyhomer Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 Any points at all well received Quote
Grand Wazoo Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I personally don't own one, but there are a lot of great reviews around on these Combi's. Perhaps not so much on this forum but there is a lot of Combi love on TalkBass http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...wall+combustion and of course on the Dingwall's own forum http://www.dingwallguitars.com/community/v...?f=2&t=1735 Quote
MythSte Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I played one down at the bass Gallery not so long ago (at least I'm pretty sure it was a combustion!) I can only give you the usual ten minute shop noodle review but I remember the mids being very forward, not for me but great for burpy growl! Quote
7string Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I've had mine a couple of months now and I really like it. It feels great, plays great and sounds good. For players who want to change the sound, there's always an option to install a B string magnetic kit to beef up the lower end a bit and it's $15. Otherwise a new set of AB pickups can be ordered for a lot more. Quote
BigRedX Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 What's the B-string magnetic kit? I couldn't find any reference to it on the Dingwall site. Quote
niceguyhomer Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 I think it's something Sheldon Dingwall came up with in response to some complaints that the B string was 'weak'. I'm really wanting a Dingwall and need a second bass so the Combustion is right up my street. It's not easy trying one before you buy and Bass Direct is a long way from Preston - especially if the choice is limited. Quote
xilddx Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I also played one at the Gallery not very long ago, it seemed really, really good. The action was a bit high for me and it was a 5er and I don't like satin necks. Great bass for the monay, but not really for me. I really GASsed after one last year too. Quote
waltsdog Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I tried the combustion last year and ended up getting an abz instead. The combustion was ok but the abz was the much better bass for not much more cash, I would recommend you try them both if you can. I've had my abz for about 10 months and it's pretty much the only bass I use now, can't fault it in any way. Quote

Also you might want to take advantage of the take it away scheme (if finance is your thing) sooner rather than later as I believe its about to change to only under 25's soon. Quote
