Bassassin
From what I understand about Japanese Fenders, that's a bit odd. Apparently Made In Japan denotes a bass built by Fujigen Gakki, who built most Jap Fenders from 1982 - 1997, and CIJ denotes those built by other factories, notably Tokai Gakki & Dyna Gakki. I understood it was only Fujigen who used MIJ. Wikipedia Blurb. Seems this might not be right, then! Jon. Strange they're both on the neck. J.
Dood
Interesting reading guys! - It looks like I own a MIJ and a CIJ then! Nice

They went from MIJ to CIJ & back again and there is an interim period where you can find both markings on the same model
LawrenceH
There's a Marcus Miller jazz fs on here that also has this http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=121136
Musky
I bookmarked a thread on TB ages ago which touches on this. It's really about Fender Japan serial numbers, but notes the recent change to Made in Japan and the previous use of MADE IN JAPAN (upper case) as well as Crafted in Japan. And, as has been pointed out, Marcus Millers and the 75 RI's have MIJ on the headstock and CIJ on the base of the neck - the jury seems to be out on exactly why they have both stamps.
