tom1946 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Hiya, I've tried a few different brands of strings, mainly Rotosound, EB & fender but I can't afford to keep trying different ones. I'm looking for 'quiet' roundwounds, in other words not noisy when your finger slides to another note quickly. I know flats are the way to go but they just sound dead to me, I play only in church situations and need sustain for a lot of the 'soft rock' type stuff that we do. Sooo, any advice please? (I did search first) Quote
Mog Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I use D'Addario Chromes. Really nice string. Have you considered using groundwounds? They'd be a bit brighter than flats. Quote
ikay Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 How about coated roundwound strings such as Elixir? Don't use them myself but have heard that they reduce finger noise Quote

hubrad Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 +1 for groundwounds - some call them Halfrounds. Brighter than flats but thicker sounding than roundwound. Barely any finger-on-string noise at all. I have them on a fretless with ash body.. my Rock bass! Quote
KiOgon Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 GHS M3075 Brite Flats - the dogs danglies Seriously good 'almost smooth' feel & superb 'bright flats' sound. I do like GHS strings better than any others I've tried Quote
tom1946 Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 Cheers for the response guys, I will stick with rounds for now though, I'll buy a set of coated elixirs and see how it goes. Thanks again. Quote
gsgbass Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 D'Addario Nylons. Super, not anything like the old style tapewound nylons. Quote
