Surely the off-chance that Leo might have breathed on it is worth double that!

Joking aside, seems a little steep considering that's an auction start price.

It's utterly ridiculous for a starting bid.

Early G&Ls (not that this one is particularly early) don't come up that often over here but something like that would sell in the States for about £650 max.

G&l have never had the popularity that the stingray has although they are great basses.

The very early ones with the front mounted control plate and the Fendery headstock are becoming collectable but I think he will be lucky to get his asking price.

Yeah I feel it's just a mater of time before early examples start commanding pre-EB 'ray prices.... But not just yet, G&L is still more cult than classic.

I think this about the third or fourth time this bass has been listed. So I suppose the general concencus must be that it's too expensive.

I had an early one with the chrome control plate, and it had the best neck I think I have played, but it was heavy.
Sold it when I bought a MM5 but got the chance to buy it back again last year.
Still wonder if I should have done

This bass has been on eBay since well before Christmas, I think the original BiN was in excess of £1200.

As others have said, G&Ls with the original headstock are creeping up in price but there is no real "pre-BBE" market outside the minds of opportunistic sellers. The complete lack of interest in the bass should tell the seller that he has seriously mis-judged the market.

Guitarguitar had a similar one in Glasgow Rich and it was £1500. That was about 18 months ago when I was buying a Jazz. I told the guy at the time that he wouldn`t get that for it and he said they would as it was "vintage g&l". Last time I saw it it was £1000.

Saw that yesterday, well OTT in my opinion. Great bass & I am looking for an L1000 from that period but the last one I saw that sold on US eBay was less than half that price.

i played it when i bought the last tecamp cab they had kicking around.

Possibly quite nice- confusing controls and a lot of hiss meant i swapped it for a fender jazz to test the cab.
It was lovely- just not £1000 lovely

Yea, the electrics were unusually distorted for a G&L of that period. One of the pots was certainly suspect. The preamp didn't seem to operate in one of the toggled modes as it should. And it was one of the light ones - alder body?

It shouldn't have a pre it's passive. The 'tronics have either suffered the ravages of time or have been interfered with.

There's only one guy I know of that knows how to fix it correctly too.

Yeah, you're all pretty much correct! I've just recently bought this bass and if you're interested, you'll find more info in 'gearporn' - G&L L1000
