spinynorman
After a period of experimenting with string choices, I have 2 sets that are surplus to requirements. Galli Black Nylon G77 tape wound - set of 4 (55, 75, 100, 115) Long Scale Look cool as anything with black tape and rich claret silks. Very smooth feel, low tension and an upright acoustic sound. Don't be put off by the 55-115 weight, they don't appear to me to stress the nut any more than 45-105 conventional flats. Have been on a 2x2 thru-body bass and minimally trimmed. Played for 10 minutes max. Coating and silks in excellent condition. Cost me £30 posted from Stringbusters. Will post in UK for £24. DR Extra Life Black Beauties - set of 4 (45, 65, 85 105) Long Scale Another set of uber cool strings with black coating and no silks to fray. These feel and sound like normal round wounds, maybe a little easier on the fingers, and are claimed to be longer lasting. The black coating tends to rub through a little on the low end frets and around the tuners, so they are not absolutely pristine, but still look stealthily black and mysterious. These were £34.95 from Strings Direct, and are currently out of stock. Due to a little wear on the coating and more playing time (a couple of hours) will post in UK for £22.50. Can measure lengths for anyone seriously interested. Will consider swaps for similar quality uncoated flat wound strings in good condition (less worried about playing time than frayed/broken silks. I hate that.) theosd
I have a set of black beauties that I've been gigging solidly for 9 months now. Still sound as fresh as new. Best strings I've ever used!
