I much prefer them, both in terms of feel and looks. Modern finishes which don't have them look very poor in comparison. Lacquer necks seem faster to me too - as does the black finish on my old Westone Spectrum - compared to a the modern finish on my Squier P/J. The lacquer finish on my T-40 is really good and this makes the neck easy to play, despite being somewhat chunky (but quite flat in profile).

I agree..I've played some name basses unfinished and I always feel like I am going to get a splinter :) it just doesn't seem right to me... as though they are skimping on the finish.

Faster, slicker, and easier to clean which gets my vote.

I felt like a change and I found a gorgeous Jazz at Far East Guitars. Still, you know what will happen. It will be in the FS section in a few months because I'll be after a Steinberger or summat :)[/quote]

Was that the red 62 RI ?
