Resale is a fickle thing.
With the Aussie Dollar VS the Pound currently, this may be the only chance I get at realistically ever owning one of these amps.
I'm sure I'm gonna take a hit no matter which big tuber I go for should I want to resell it, but resale is doubtful if these amps are as good as (or better) than the other amps I mentioned before.
The GT200 being much rarer over here may count for something......

p.s unfortunatly the album was recorded before I go the Matamp. I used a mixture of vintage Traynor and Sunn amps.

absolutely great tunes and tone.

I just got my first Valve head: Simms-Watts PA 100 MKII. At practice last night I UNDERSTOOD what all the fuss is about.

Now its time for the big save and long drive to Matamp

Yep - It's all about the tube power section.
Congrats.

All these hybrid amps with their tube pre's are missing the point.
I'd rather have a SS pre with a tube power section than the other way around.

Another query;

Do all GT200's come with KT88's?

[i]I hear KT-88's are easier to bias, and are more stable over time than 6550's.... so I assume this is why Matamp uses them currently.[/i]

Has anyone tried theirs with 6550's?

I have never heard of it. What self respecting British amp builder would use the all American tube?

Actually I have.
Very light weight from what I hear.
I've read a lot of other things online about them too, but then I don't like to repeat hype from others, I'd rather only relay my own experience on things.
Anyone else?

If only I could find an Aussie amp builder in Australia who could offer anything close to the Matamp in terms of quality and tone......and the weight of the Morgan.

6550's aren't as hardy and powerful as kt88's other than that the rest in tonal

Slave,if you're looking around anyway,not completely settled on Matamp there is the Reeves Custom 225.
Made in the US.As you're going to buy from overseas anyway..

Awesome amps - but not quite the amp I'm looking for.
I have played through an original OR120 before (with bass), and whilst it's the best stoner rock amp for guitar EVER!!!!, it's not quite what I'm after for bass.
Awesome mid-range, but the bottom is just a little bit too fuzzy at the volumes I play at.

I'm pretty much compelled NOT to buy an ampeg on that basis alone.
Afterall, it's just an amp. It doesn't come with a national anthem when it's made in Vietnam!

I play the GT200 through a vintage Ampeg 8x10. I'm Canadian though so that's OK :lol: . Mostly tune half a step down sometimes i will drop the E string to C#, extra light gauge flats (Labella 760FX) on Lakland Bob Glaub or 4001 Ric. Sometimes I play a MIJ P-bass with DR SS Lo-Riders too.

Shoot them a message and see if they'll do a KT88 amp, or have one in the works.

Good Idea. I'll have to see...
See if they're willing to have a crack at it, bearing in mind it would have to be re-tuned for bass use.

...and yes and no.
Two of the messages was I-lit-er-it with typo's galore with NOTHING BUT CAPS LOCK AND YELLING!!!!!!!! AND LOTS !!!!! OF !!!! EXCLAMATIONS!!!!!!!,
........the other 2 were a little less flag waving and pretty neat, but all together made me LOL so they're welcome all the same.

Okay, got a message back from the distributor in Aust.,
Seems due to the current exchange rate;

[i]The Ampeg SVT-VR and Orange AD200B are more expensive than the Matamp.[/i]
The SVT-CL is only slightly less [i]IF [/i]I agree to buy one from across the other side of the country....
So really, the Matamp is no longer the expensive option.
What happened to the pound??!?!
I remember when the exchange rate was so mean you had to kidnap a rich kid, bash a pensioner [u]and[/u] work the streets for a while to afford one.........not that I'm complaining.
