From what I can find out, these Aerodynes didn't have them when originally made, but as you know, this particular one has holes where someone has fitted one subsequently. And I quite fancy putting one back on to see how it looks. How different can Fender pickup covers be I wonder? Not having ever owned (or even played) an instrument with ashtrays I wouldn't know myself...
