teaching rates

Hello there,
I am considering teaching after a long lay off,I am a Double bass/bass player and I also teach guitar to children up to grade 3.
Please can you give me advise on going rates,I have a degree in music and over thirty years experience.

I'd have a chat with the MU - they set a standard minimum rate which I don't think is unreasonable. You could also just try asking what other people in your area charge, and gauge your prices on that.

I believe the MU are sorting out (finally) their teachers section, which would be worth joining for help in that area, child protection etc. Oh, and you get a diary that is in a garish colour, and a magazine that you won't want to read four times a year.

I charge 17.50 per 50 mins and the students come every 2 weeks however if the student is under 13 you are best of 30 mins a week every week
