I've had a go on one (courtesy of my heavy rocking bass player friend ;)) they're not bad, give off a good sound, tbh I didnt like the shape tho he adored it so who's complaining

errm, I dont think Dark Stars would fit..*ponders* :)

overall its an ok from me.

It's a case of "looks better than it plays" from my experience with them, but if you were to have it professionally set up, shielded and some hi spec electronics of your choice to replace the original stuff... i'm sure you would have a very nice bass.

haha i think they look quite cool minus the headstocks, and to the o/p sounds alrate i can do all the stuff myself! would want to set it up in c# f# b e

Nice looking basses, shame they don't do higher spec models.

Darkstars would require routing, so if you are up to the task, sounds cool to me, but make sure you replace everything else electronic wise.

A full leveling, crowning, detail nutwork treatment will do more for the bass than anything imo.

Despite their huge size and humbucker-like look, Dark Stars are single-coil pickups. They have individually adjustable polepieces (the row of flat-head screws are the adjusters), an enormous steel core, and two big Alnico V bar magnets. According to frequency-response tests performed by Alembic’s Ron Wickersham in the late ’60s, the Hagstrom design has exceptionally broad frequency response. This wide and even response was one of Fred Hammon’s primary design goals.
