What files do you use? the specifically made guitar nut files are ridiculously expensive, can I get cheaper ones??

You could try 'Rat tail' Files. Very cheap to buy. Google them. Theres lots of places that sell them. Ive never tried it but its a cheap option!

They're not great but will enlarge existing slots, if you're cutting from scratch you'll need better/pukka files.

Yeah i'd mainly be using these to increase the depth of the nuts rather than enlarging them.

I have a few sets of the gas welding files for guitar nuts. The finer sizes are VERY flimsy, but they do get better as you head toward the bass sizes. They're probably worth about £1.85 that they're charging.
