Pete Academy Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 This song by Katie Perry is incredibly catchy, features a ridiculously auto-tuned vocal, and a crap rap in the middle by Snoop Dogg. It epitomises the state of pop music in this day and age. But it also features a slap bass part. Could this be the return of slap? mep Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Katie Perry & her songs do it for me. Nice subtle bit of slapped bass, we as subtle as you can be whilst slapping! Quote
Pete Academy Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 I reckon slap bass is making a comeback. MK is polishing his thumb, as we speak. Quote

The heavy sampled/chopped up slap bass part is 'nout new, Justice were doing this a few years back and their sound has heavily influenced current styles of popular music production (fast forward to 3:20 to see what I mean): Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 But I have never heard of Justice? Katy Perry happens to be an international act with millions of sales. For all the KP fans (perverts!) search for her on YouTube having her breasts covered in paper mâché and that's not a euphemism! Quote

Soliloquy Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I hate DJ's so rarely listen to the radio, if I don't have a choice then I tune to Radio 3 or what was Virgin. I don't own a TV and don't watch films . I live a sheltered life LOL. Quote
paul h Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Ok, it's four or five years old but it's this kind of thing that always makes me want to slap on a P bass. Quote

OliverBlackman Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 When did slap go away? Its consistently used in dance records but as a subtle octave riff rather than the full on victor wooten/Mark King styles we see on youtube. Quote
