fatback Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 What it says, really. Need new strings, but want to keep my pickup options open. Quote
chrkelly Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Probably not, you need strings with metal cores for mag pickups. Quote
slobluesine Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Silver Slaps don t have any steel in them, Prestos or Eurosonics as they're sometimes called are similar to Silver Slaps in tension and feel and do have some steel in them Quote
fatback Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Thanks for that. Any idea about the evah pirazzis? Quote
slobluesine Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Evah Pirazzis are Steel Core AFAIK, havn't tried them tho Quote
chrkelly Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Evah's are most definitely synthetic. Quote
slobluesine Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 seem's they're Steel wound http://www.pirastro.com/homeset.html Quote

You could try them with a mag pickup but I doubt there's enough metal in there for it to work properly. Might be an expensive experiment if it doesn't work out. Quote
slobluesine Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 if you want low tension steels bump down some Spirocores and get a high C Quote
fatback Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 Thanks for the advice, gents. Maybe bumping steels and a mag is the way to go. Quote

Since I've gone the mag route, I definitely need to know more about steels. Edited March 15, 2011 by fatback Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Thomastik Dominants worked fine with a Kent Armstrong mag pickup for me, and those have a synthetic core with steel windings, so it's probably hard to predict without trying them. As chrkelly said though, its a costly experiment... Quote
