fatback
What it says, really. Need new strings, but want to keep my pickup options open.
chrkelly
Probably not, you need strings with metal cores for mag pickups.
slobluesine
Silver Slaps don t have any steel in them, Prestos or Eurosonics as they're sometimes called are similar to Silver Slaps in tension and feel and do have some steel in them
fatback
Thanks for that. Any idea about the evah pirazzis?
slobluesine
Evah Pirazzis are Steel Core AFAIK, havn't tried them tho
chrkelly
Evah's are most definitely synthetic.
slobluesine
seem's they're Steel wound http://www.pirastro.com/homeset.html
chrkelly
seem's they're Steel wound http://www.pirastro.com/homeset.html
That's true but it's only the thin outer wrap that's metal, inside it's all synthetic. You could try them with a mag pickup but I doubt there's enough metal in there for it to work properly. Might be an expensive experiment if it doesn't work out. slobluesine
if you want low tension steels bump down some Spirocores and get a high C
fatback
Thanks for the advice, gents. Maybe bumping steels and a mag is the way to go.

Since I've gone the mag route, I definitely need to know more about steels. Edited March 15, 2011 by fatback
Beer of the Bass
Thomastik Dominants worked fine with a Kent Armstrong mag pickup for me, and those have a synthetic core with steel windings, so it's probably hard to predict without trying them. As chrkelly said though, its a costly experiment...
