Good evening, I'm from Worcestershire...

...in case you couldn't tell...

Well, after seeing the Blockheads once again last week, my frail 46 year old mind and body has decided that I just have to (attempt) to start playing the bass.

Norman Watt-Roy just blew me away and it was obvious that the whole band were just loving what they were doing.

I used to play the drums in a band many years ago; We headlined in all the major village halls in the area :) but I've always had an urge to pick up the bass...

Anyway, the recent influx of oldie newcomers to this forum has made me decide that I'm not too old to try something new and to get off my (pre?) geriatric butt and do something about my urge.

I haven't even got any kit yet; Prepare yourselves for lots of "Noddy" questions and advice about what to buy...

Regards,

Nick

Hi Marky,

Yes, I live in Malvern. I notice from your profile that you're 99 years old ;) , so I presume that you remember all the bands that used to play at the "Winter Gardens" in the '70s/early '80s? When I chat to some of my friends and work colleagues now who have slighltly less "life experience" than me, they can't believe the bands that used to come to Malvern: The Groundhogs, Ultravox, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Motorhead and The Damned to name but a few.

Me and my best mate saw Motorhead 3 times in 3 nights on their Bomber tour; Birmingham (Odeon?), Malvern and Birmingham again. I don't think my ears have ever truly recovered... (maybe I should stick to playing the drums :) )

We used to see loads of bands in Birmingham as my mate was studying at the college of food there. Apart from all the "big" bands we saw (Ramones, Genesis etc) I remember seeing Quartz (remember Nantucket Sleighride?) play in a club situated upstairs in a building on New Street (possibly called "Bogarts?"). We also went to see a fresh, new band called Iron Maiden in a Pub which I think was in a road which ran down next to the Post Office?

I'm pretty sure we ended most nights with a visit to the Navigation Fish Bar

Anyway, enough reminissing; if none of this makes sense to you, then obviously I'm even older than I feel...

Regards,

Nick.
