Jayfaedoom
hi, i am looking at buying a Bass Head. I play bass in 2 bands. 1 band is a sludge band tuned to B and the other is tuned to c playing more Isis / Opeth style stuff a lot of this is clean with some chorus effects to add a nice ambient vibe. I was wondering what head people would recommend that would be good for both styles of band? I really am at a loss as to what to buy, i am on a tight budget though.... any advice? sk8
what is your budget? Helps to narrow down the choices
Jayfaedoom
oops sorry... erm........ really looking to spend no more than £300 i would def consider buying 2nd hand too
Bassmouseman
Ashdown MAG300 / 600. I've got a MAG600 and it's a great little amp for the money IMO. I tried quite a few amps around this price range when buying and this eventually won (even tho there is no compression on it).
sk8
+1 for the ashdown Mag
thedontcarebear
You might be able to pick up a used Ampeg B2RE for that, or pay £400 for a new one.
alexclaber
Peavey Firebass or similar. Loud, solid tone, unbreakable. Alex

Jayfaedoom
cool thanks for the replies, any adivce on the following heads? - Behringer Ultrabass BX4500H - Ashdown Mag300 H - Ashdown Mag600 H - Laney RB-9 - Warwick Profret 3.2 a wee list, just all new and in my budget. bassboy115
behringer NO NO NO!!! there are way better options than that! Ashdown Yes! On both it just depends on how much power you want as as far as im aware they both have the same features! I used to ahve an ashdown Mag300 combo and it was sweet! Only ever tried a laney once and it was alright though i still prefered my own Warwick are generally very good bt again never tried the profet. IMO Go for the ashdown! Musky
Got to agree with bassboy really, though the Ashdowns are a bit marmite - some people love 'em, others hate 'em. The Laneys I've tried (not any of the RBs) have been ok but don't seem to have any character of their own - nothing to really love or hate about them, just ok. There's a good deal on the profet 5.1 here at the moment. Insane price - £208 including delivery (be quick - it's a January sale!).
