stingrayPete1977 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I guess a Sub 5 would be over £250? Mcnash style modded OLP 5 could be nice and within budget? Quote

Yes, I think a SUB5 will be better than a modified OLP Although if you enjoy modifying basses, the OLP is not such a bad choice. The SUB5 is rarer than the SUB4 but they still appear relatively frequently. My SUB5 cost me £350. Worth every penny and more. It had a few scuffs on headstock and neck. A "prettier" one will easily get £400. That's great value. Quote

An an Audere preamp, nice specs... but, the best... it has a BLUE LED!!!!! If it has blue leds, it's full of awesomeness. It's a rule. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 How much would a Tony Levin OLP fetch Jose? No need to mod straight away or at all although I'm not so keen on the narrower string spacings, are all OLP 5's narrow compared to my SR5? Quote
waynepunkdude Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 After thinking about this over night I have decided to keep the bass. I just really, really like it, if the repair does fall to pieces I can still sell the parts and make back some money and I really want to see if Dave can really do it for £100. Quote
waynepunkdude Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Actually going to go with the refund and see if I can do a deal on the blue one. Quote

BigRedX Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 It's a pity the bass turned out to be in such bad condition. Still I think you've done the right thing as I don't think that pinning the damage is going to be a feasible long-term solution. Luthite isn't the same as wood and because it's a composite structure, I don't believe that you can make repairs to it in the same way. If that was wood the split would happen along the grain and if you pin it at 90° to the grain you'll end up with a good strong repair. Luthite doesn't have that kind of structure and next time the damaged area takes a significant knock it may well split in a different direction and then be even more difficult to fix. Quote
lemmywinks Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Check this seller out: http://musical-instruments.shop.ebay.co.uk...6.c0.m270.l1313 In the USA so you'll have to factor in extra costs but these are the new line of Rockbasses with the 2 piece bridges and look like proper Warwicks. They've even got rid of the cheesy logo too! If the price ends up around £300 you may as well stump up the extra for a used German one though. Thomann were also flogging the last of their old-style Rockbasses for decent prices, most of the right hand models are gone now though. Might be worth checking around to see if somewhere can do you a good deal on their old stock Rockbasses before the new ones arrive. Also worth keeping an eye out for the old Streamer Standard bolt-on, they go for £200+ Quote
Kev Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Refund was the right option i reckon buddy. He may do the best job in the world, but £100 just sounds too low for the kind of repair it would need. Quote
