That looks tidy.

Do it!

By the time you get the pickup and the preamp, unless you are lucky and find the right combo used quickly (unlikely), you're not too far from SUB5 money.
Yes, I think a SUB5 will be better than a modified OLP :) Although if you enjoy modifying basses, the OLP is not such a bad choice.

The SUB5 is rarer than the SUB4 but they still appear relatively frequently.

My SUB5 cost me £350. Worth every penny and more. It had a few scuffs on headstock and neck. A "prettier" one will easily get £400. That's great value.

That's a beauty!

An an Audere preamp, nice specs...

but, the best... it has a BLUE LED!!!!!

If it has blue leds, it's full of awesomeness. It's a rule. :)

It's a pity the bass turned out to be in such bad condition.

Still I think you've done the right thing as I don't think that pinning the damage is going to be a feasible long-term solution. Luthite isn't the same as wood and because it's a composite structure, I don't believe that you can make repairs to it in the same way. If that was wood the split would happen along the grain and if you pin it at 90° to the grain you'll end up with a good strong repair. Luthite doesn't have that kind of structure and next time the damaged area takes a significant knock it may well split in a different direction and then be even more difficult to fix.

Check this seller out:
http://musical-instruments.shop.ebay.co.uk...6.c0.m270.l1313

In the USA so you'll have to factor in extra costs but these are the new line of Rockbasses with the 2 piece bridges and look like proper Warwicks. They've even got rid of the cheesy logo too! If the price ends up around £300 you may as well stump up the extra for a used German one though.

Thomann were also flogging the last of their old-style Rockbasses for decent prices, most of the right hand models are gone now though.
Might be worth checking around to see if somewhere can do you a good deal on their old stock Rockbasses before the new ones arrive.

Also worth keeping an eye out for the old Streamer Standard bolt-on, they go for £200+
Refund was the right option i reckon buddy. He may do the best job in the world, but £100 just sounds too low for the kind of repair it would need.
Probably was but now I left with £250 to find a 5 and all I have found is metal looking basses and horrid natural ones.
