I have a 2005 USA std Jazz with the switch, I have played some rock on it, no complaints, the S-1 makes the bottom end nice and "thuddy", worth it for my money.

S-1's stick & break - best series/parallel conversion for a Jazz? http://www.guitar-mod.com/rg_prewired.html & scroll down to the JSP. Best mod I ever did. Good luck!

The world's most expensive push pull pot!

I've had S1 swtiches on three basses since they came out. None have got stuck or have broken yet.

Me old Jazz lasted warranty + 1 week, couldn't get a replacement & I got through 2 push-pull pots and a ton of solder trying to replace it, :) before resorting to the "throw a load of cash at it" remedy! I'll use basschat next time...
I know what you mean when questioning the lack of bottom end on a jazz... Or is it just plain output? I'm seriously falling out with my Geddy Lee in this respect. I love the sound of the bass in isolation, but in a band situation it just lacks any balls. Compared to my active basses (Status, Warwick, Yamaha, etc) I have to increase the input stage by 25% & the bass frequency by about 10%. The jazz just ends up sounding harsh to me.

Rob Green at Status has offered to rout out some cavities in it & make it active with T-Bass electronics & I'm sorely tempted :)
Or get a J-Retro..?

I finally got to amplify my USA Jazz last week. Got to say it is tonally MUCH more solid than my Squier. It is the first time I have genunely noticed the tonal difference between a cheaper and more expensive bass. I finally have that tone you get on 70's rock records.
Then on went the s-1 switch :) Thunder!!!

My god, if only I could get on with Precision necks. I am lazy, and 1.5" necks are wide enough. This even put me off a MM Stingray......

Think I'll do the push-pull mod on my Squier or a Mexican Jazz.
