Paultrader Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Hi, I'm trying to replace a lost Fender Bass Bridge Saddle Length Adjustment Screw for my 70s Precision bass. The internet has only turned up a supplier in the USA with prohibitive postage costs (£35.00 for a pack of 12 screws!). Can anyone help me out with a supplier in the UK please? Paul Quote
ikay Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Paul, I've recently hunted down some longer (1.75") intonation screws for the G and D saddles on my 72 jazz which I eventually got from LAS Aerospace (www.lasaero.com) who were very helpful. The spec of the standard intonation screw for a 70s bridge is 6-32 UNC x 1.5" pan head phillips (6-32 UNC indicates the shaft diameter and thread count). If you email LAS Aero I'm sure they'll be able to dig some up for you. The screws only cost 10p each but their minimum order is £5. If the longer 1.75" screws will work for you then PM me your address and I'll drop a set in the post to you. Ian Quote
Paultrader Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 Many thanks for your help, Will try Allparts and post how I get on. Interestingly, I've no idea how long I had been playing without it there. The string was keeping everything else in place and it was only when I came to change them that it all collapsed! It's not my first bass these days (cherished and semi-retired), so it doesn't get massive use. Paul Quote
Paultrader Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 All sorted now. The Allparts package contained exactly the right ingredients. The P is back in action with the intonation set perfect. Many thanks for your help guys. Paul Quote

The long G intonation screws aren't available from Fender anyway and I sourced mine from an aerospace parts supplier. Quote
simenschi Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Hi! I found this thread through a google search, after looking for the extra long bridge length screws for my 70's P bass with custom Jazz neck. On my bass it seems I need the extra longer ones for the G and the D string, and possible the A string aswell, to get the intonation right. My question is, are these ones the longer ones? Or is this the standard lenght? http://www.allparts.com/GS-0010-005-Steel-Bridge-Length-Screws_p_1735.html And is LAS Aero the only place to buy the longer ones? (inconvenient since the screws only cost 10p each but their minimum order is £5). Quote
ikay Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 simenschi, the Allparts screws are standard 1 1/2" length. If you're in the UK drop me a pm with your address and I'll post you a couple of longer 1 3/4" screws. You should only need them for the G and D strings. Quote
simenschi Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Fantastic news! Sent you a PM right now. Quote
tom1946 Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 God I love this place! So helpful & resourceful, unlike some car forums that treat you like an idiot for asking a question. Quote

rmcki Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) Help - also looking for 1 3/4 screws supplier. MIM Fender P-Bass - Just added a GOTOH 201 to my p-bass, i decided to use the old fender barrels(Fender=8mm -- GOTOH=10mm) and re-drill the intonation screws holes to 4mm, just to keep the action as low as possible. All worked great untill setting the intonation, just like the others the G and D string screws are too short. If anyone wants the GOTOH barrels and intonation screws, let me know. ossyrocks Posted January 13 Posted January 13 (edited) Holy thread resurrection Batman! Just want to say that Ian @ikay generously fixed me up with some longer bridge intonation screws this week that I wanted to try in a '73 Jazz. He posted them to me free of charge and they worked a treat. They look very very close to the originals too in terms of the shape and diameter of the pan head etc. So then looking at another '73 Jazz I have, I thought that might benefit too from longer screws. In the end I've bought a stash of them too, all 1 3/4". The original '70-'73 longer screws were 1 7/8", so they're not quite there, but they are good for those early 70's basses (mostly jazzes) which could use a longer screw on a couple of the other strings. Ian and I have discussed why this occurred, and it seems that in changing the position of the bridge pickup on jazzes in the early 70's, they also moved the bridge back a tad, which accounts for why both my '73's are intonated with the saddles right at the limit at the front of the bridge. I also think string choice is playing a part for me here too. I don't recall having to adjust the saddles so far forward until I started using LaBella flats. Anyway, I now have a stash of these 1 3/4" screws too, which fit perfectly and look the business, so if anyone is in need of any, you can also now get in touch with me and I too am able to send you what you need. Cheers, Rob Edited January 13 by ossyrocks Quote
