I'm guessing they offer huge sustain and a very 'middy' tone.

That's outrageous ... a guitar with a 1" thick body made of stone! :)

You have to wonder if it came with a reinforced support stand to hold it while you tried to play it.

Is there any merit in the idea of a "tuned" reinforcement rod buried in the neck? Sounds like snake oil to me.
