gub Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Just come back from rehersal and the new band i am with now wants to do this song but we have to drop it down half step from F as the singer gets on better with it there ,trouble is i am so used to playing it in F and have been for a long time as i have done this song for ages and know i am going to forget and start playing it the way i am used to when we do it live ! Bilbo Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Use a second bass tuned down a half step. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Or just write "E" next to it on the set list to remind you. I'm very used to singers flipping the key about Quote

lettsguitars Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 anyroad up. fleetwood mac. it's essential sometimes to transpose to meet the singers range so i guess you're going to have to like it or lump it. or a quick retune? i wouldn't be scared to retune between a song or two. it can be done in about 10 seconds. WalMan Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 You think you've got problems. One of the bands I'm in does Wayward Son in a shortened & heavy version in E, whilst the proggy band does the full version in A. Added to which another band I dep for occassionally does a few songs my main band does in a variety of different keys. It's a frickin' nightmare remembering what to do with which and where on the neck Quote

Or idiocy, whichever they`re more suited to. Quote
Blademan_98 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Funny that if I say I can't play it in a different key, I'm told to buckle down and learn it. The singer can't sing it and it's well you will just have to transpose it into a key I can sing in...... Quote
KevB Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Personally I'd go the 'second detuned bass' route as well. Don't know why but I think it looks more professional to slickly swap a bass for another song than retuning. No matter how fast you think you are retuning it always, from my experience as a punter, looks awkward from the audiences view. Quote
Doddy Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 But surely you don't need to retune? You are only dropping it a semitone to E,so you are still within the range of the instrument. Quote
