dickandjill
Hi I am currently building an EB3 type bass and was wondering if it would be ok to use a Les Paul wiring harness (2 vol 2 tone and 3 way switch) connected to the 2 pickups ? Also if anyone has any Epiphone humbucker and mini humbucker pickups they've removed from an Epiphone EB3 that they would like to sell please let me know. I have also been looking at other pickups I could use. Neck pickups: EMG Select (bit smaller than original size neck pickup though) about £28 DiMarzio Will Power [DP145] £70 DiMarzio Model One (DP120) £72 Bridge pickups: Epiphone viola bass neck pickup £36 If anyone has any of these I would welcome comments Also any other recommendations Thanks Richard
BigRedX
Depends on how authentic you want your copy to be. The Les Paul wiring harness won't have the varitone circuit. You can see the two different EB03 circuits used here The current version - the SG Bass has a more conventional V-V-T circuit. dickandjill
How can I tell what they should be ? The loom I'm looking at is a Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul Wiring Harness with 2 Volumes + 2 Tones + 3 Way Toggle + 1/4" Output Jack it has Alpha(JS) Pro 500k Pots. Thing is I don't want to make up my own loom I'd want to buy one ready made as electronics and soldering are not something I'm confident in I'm likely to buy a DiMarzio Model One for neck pickup and have had suggested a DiMarzio hot DP198 mini humbucker http://www.dimarzio.com/site/#/pickups/ but its not listed as a bass pickup. Will this be ok? Cheers Richard
BigRedX
You won't really know which value pots and caps you need until you've decided on your pickups. The Les Paul harness will work, however it might not work as well as components selected to specifically match the pick ups. And it certainly won't give you the classic EB03 varitone sounds even if you use EB03 pick ups. Edited February 23, 2011 by BigRedX
