PURPOLARIS Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Ok I'm getting ahead of myself here. I'm going for an audition on Thursday night with a Celtic Rock Band. Mainly amped acoustic stuff doing songs by Travis, The Waterboys etc. with a few originals thrown in for good measure. The band have told me that they want an acoustic look which means I'm going to need an acoustic Bass. Ideally I'd be looking at a 5 string acoustic Bass as I only play 5 string these days therefore I'm looking for some recommendations assuming that all goes well on Thursday. Secondly my amp is an Ampeg SVTPro6 coupled to a TC Electronics 4x10 cab. Do you think this would be ok for gigs or is it overkill. Apparently the band have some big gigs lined up, I'll find out more on Thursday. Over to you. Quote
hubrad Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 If they really insist on the acoustic thing, Crafter do a half-decent 5er, but depending on volume (Celtic Rock covers alot of bases..) you may struggle with feedback. If it's the LOUDER end of such things, those Godin ones are rather tasty both fretted and fretless. Or maybe it's time for an EUB? For the first run through, I'd just take something you're comfortable with so they can see and hear you - they might drop further stipulations. Quote
wateroftyne Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I really don't get this 'must have an acoustic bass' thing. It's not MTV unplugged in 1993 anymore.... Quote
PURPOLARIS Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 It was mentioned about the acoustic aspect of the band but like i said, I'll know more on Thursday I'll be taking my Shuker to the audition, who knows, the sound of that might blow them away. That's interesting about the feedback comment, I might use that one Quote
