Odd effects loop help

I've an old Peavey mega bass head I hope to use as a power amp with a Sansamp vt pedal. Oddly, the effects loop has a single Jack as both the send and the return so It'll need some sort of compatible cable. Would anyone know what the cable might be?

Probably a stereo to mono split:

The only way you can get a signal in and out on the same connector I would have thought.

The Send is connected to the tip and the Return is connected to the ring.

Silly question time.

If you're using the Sansamp as a pre & the Peavey as a power, then why not plug the bass into the samsamp & then a cable straight frm the out of that & into the "power amp in" socket on the rear, or is that not how that works?

That's what he's planning on doing, but the head uses a single jack patch bay as opposed to seperate send and return connectors.

Therefore he has to use an insert cable to break in.

But is the fx send not on the front of those amps?
I'm sure there's pre out & power in sockets round the back.

xgsjx is right in stating the amp has a single jack loop on the front but also on the back has a power amp in jack.

I guess on this amp a new question has arisen. Does it make any odds which of the two inputs is used for the pedal?

Handy thread this. I have a Music Man RD112 guitar combo with same 'insert' fx loop. In fact it has 2 of them, one is line level output and t'other is higher level. These can be used as simple lines in or out too, depending on how far in you push the jack. They can also be used to hook up slave amps too. Smart!

From the sounds of it, one is an input & the other is an output. thing is, what way round??? They're called "Pre Amp In" & "PWR Amp Out" (from what I can see on web pics) & would suggest that you take the lead from your Sansamp & put it into the "Pre Amp In", but I'd check that it is an input & not an out for it's pre amp.

It's the other way round - Pre Amp Out and PWR Amp In.
Pre-Amp Out is your 'Send'
Power Amp In is your 'Return'

Thanks for that icastle. Got it now. The power amp in is the one to use as its post eq. The front loop being pre eq.

Picked up this Peavey head just to be a cheap power amp but its actually a very versatile amp. A lot of options on it, though as we've found out a bit confusing with its in and outs. Also the better 'pre' is much needed for it and the vt is just great for that. Cheers.
