prengel_basser
Hi There! this is my first thread in this forum (my other post where in the "gear for sale" thread only...). at first I really have something to say about this forum: I like it FAR better than all our german bass forums. the people I met here are far nicer and VERY friendly and helpful. I was treaten with respect everytime I had a question and I really appreciate this forum! Back to topic! I bought an old Yamaha bb300 last year. I had the plan to modify it to have a mix of stingray and a P-bass. my idea was inspired by this great thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=pingray the BB300 is a really great bass for it´s own! a REALLY nice p-bass! The maple neck also has a super beautiful grain, a bit "birdseye"-like. I have a stingray HH and a real nice P-bass, too. so I can make a good comparison to the "originals". what I did: replaced the old tuners with SANDBERG tuners. replaced the bridge with a SANDBERG bridge. put the original yamaha P-pickup in new shells put a DELANO MM ALNICO humbucker in it (MC4) added a NOLL EQ (treble and bass) the input jack moved to the side a batterycompartment was installed added a hipshot stringtree made a custom shaped pickguard (inspired by the stingray 5) routing, shielding etc. the p-pickup is reversed as you can see in the pics, and the E/A section is in the original spot where Leo put it in the old days ;-) the D/G section is closer to the neck (which sound absolutely great!), because it would have crossed with the MM-pickup. the MM pickup is in the original "sweetspot" too. it has an active "NOLL" 2band eq (awesome german manufactor) and a push/pull Volume knob. there are two 3-position switches. the first one selects the pickups (neck only, neck and bridge, bridge only) the second one selects the mode of the MM-humbucker (parallel, singlecoil, series) with this switching you get 7 different sounds, which are all very usefull! It´s tuned B-E-A-D. right now, I´m very happy with my Pingray! it plays great, it sounds great and looks really nice (for my taste ;-) thanks for looking at my first post! excuse my bad English.. I have not enough practice in writing and speaking it. here are the pics: this is the bass at original specs: this is the bass in the works and this is the final result: SOUNDFILE ADDED! the sounds are: bridge - parallel bridge - singlecoil bridge - series neck - series neck series + bridge parallel neck series + bridge singlecoil neck series + bridge series I EDITED THIS FIRST POST SINCE I´M SELLING THE BASS. I WANTED TO HAVE ALL THE MODIFICATIONs MENTIONED IN THE FIRST POST. Edited July 15, 2011 by prengel_basser
Ou7shined
That's fantastic work you've done there Stefan. I am so happy that my Pingray was the inspiration for yours. I'm not a big fan of the SR5 pickguard but yours really suits the project very well... better than on a SR5. You should paint the headstock black to match the body. It would finish the bass off perfectly. Edited March 2, 2011 by Ou7shined

It´s really nice when the "master of extreme Mods" likes it!
You should paint the headstock black to match the body. I think the eq is more important, so I´ll save the money for that ;-)
Darkstrike
Damn, fantastic work dude! I'm(like Ou7shined) not a fan of the Stingray V pickguard usually, but on the Yamaha, it looks utterly killer, great stuff!

Don't make the file too big or it won't be allowed. Edited March 2, 2011 by Ou7shined

prengel_basser
OHH! the samples are played straight into the "line in" of my Imac. so no eq etc. just the "pure" signal. Edited March 2, 2011 by prengel_basser

prengel_basser
yes the sandberg hardware is very good, even more when you consider the pricing. there is better hardware out there for sure, but the sandberg hardware is REALLY good for the price. I´ll play the bass on rehearsal on monday. after that I will have a think about an eq. I already know which one I would take, but don´t know, if I really need one Edited March 3, 2011 by prengel_basser
