norvegicusbass Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 What does Guitar pro allow you to do exactly? Currently I am learning bass lines from either Songsterr.com or You Tube or just plain old fashioned ear but I keep hearing about Guitar pro and was wondering if this is superior or different. Anyone use it? Quote
niceguyhomer Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 It's tab writing software, I use it to learn songs though. You can search for and download tabs from the web into GP. When you open the song in GP, you get the notation, the tab on the screen and the sounds with a mixer so you can take the bass out or boost it etc. You can loop sections, slow 'em down etc. A marker moves along with the tab so you know where you are. It's the dogs bollox and worth every penny Quote
bobbass4k Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I use it to write songs too. For writing you'll want gp5.2 or gp6, the sound banks are really good, and the tab entry makes it really intuitive and easy to work out ideas. Quote
bobbass4k Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I didn't like 6 to be honest. I may just be really used to 5 but I found it a lot less intuitive/easy to use. It's especially worse for stuff that changes time signature a lot (i.e. most of the stuff i write) as the bar doesn't retain it's time signature when you c+p it like it does in gp5. Quote
AttitudeCastle Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 How many of you out there use it? And how much does GP6 run these days? I'm considering it but not sure on pricing =/ Quote
Dood Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 If you want a free version of Guitar Pro 5 - Google 'TUX'. They both are good, but riddled with head bashing frustrations I think - Guitar Pro 6 isn't perfect, but it's definitely an improvement in GUI in my opinion - though as Bob says, there's a few things that you have to do differently between versions which can be frustrating! BassBunny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Tux Guitar is awesome and FREE. You can import Guitar Pro into it and output to various audio formats AND MiDi. Quote
TomKent Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 A lot of people at my Uni use it, however I don't see any advantage to it. Sibelius has a tab'ing feature (should you need it), pretty sure there's a way you can import GuitarPro files too.. Quote
gapiro Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I personally prefer GP5 over 6, as GP5 allows me to change between 4/5 string tunings a lot easier! Quote
EdwardHimself Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 it's a waste of money compared to tuxguitar which is free Quote
