foal30 Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 today's mob is 1. Paul Chambers he's sort of my favorite but I don't really know how to explain why. I especially like his blues playing , paradoxically it makes me happy to hear it. 2. Jerry Jemmott electric blues grooves with B.B.King remain a masterclass. the drummer on those records was a MF'er too which always helps. 3. James Jamerson there is always something each time you listen you know. he's like the library, a knowledge resource. 4. Charles Mingus I not know that much of his stuff but I get 'Roots and Blues' and I'm more flabbergasted than the jive ass slippers of that fishmongers mother in law 5. Prince he write some great songs that need great bass. so I give thanks. Quote
the_skezz Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 1. JJ Burnel - Great sound, amazing lines, absolute legend 2. Geddy Lee - Because **** me, is YYZ difficult to play... 3. John Entwhistle - Nuff said 4. Roger Waters - Money. That is all 5. Justin Chancellor - Brilliant tone, good feel for the instrument. Quote
guzzibass Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Rick Danko Woody Woodmansy Herbie Flowers Ronnie Lane Weber Brothers bass player - forgotten his name. Quote
Big_Stu Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Jimmy Lea - Probably the most disgracefully under-rated bassist ever. Lemmy - Totally unique, though he says he's not a bassist - pedant!!!! Duck Dunn - Solid solid - just does what it says on the "bassist" tin. Mark King - not the first to do that, but certainly the best. John Entwistle - the loudest typewriter in the world. Quote

arthurhenry Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) 1.Billy Sheehan, more for digging in hard and the energy he puts into his lines than for the flash stuff. 2.Andy Fraser, surely the best British player of all 3.Geddy Lee, another digger inner. 4.Jack Bruce, lots of notes! 5.Steve Harris, for starting it all off for me. Whatever you think of him, huge respect is surely deserved. Edited September 20, 2010 by arthurhenry Quote
