cocco
So I'm going on tour to Germany and using a Glockenklang rig while I'm there. Anyone got any advice/experience/info on them? Any help would be appreciated.
Platypus
Well, absolute top kit, Udo, the main man at Glock is really helpful and will get you going if you have any problems - don't expect you will have any problems What kit will you be using? cocco
I dont know exactly, ive only seen pics, the heads all look pretty much the same to me, it has a 2x10 and 4x10 cab though. Are they hi-fi sounding? I'm really excited about it! How will it compare to my SVT 4 pro and 8x10 rig?
cocco
From the pic it could be a heart rock.
Platypus
I would say that the generic Glockenklang tone was big, warm and fat
warwickhunt
Not used the cabs but I owned one of the top of the range 'Bass Art' amps and it was a STUNNING amp! Unfortunately it was only 300w @ 4 ohms and it struggled to sufficiently do my 6x10 2100w tech Soundsystems cab justice (it was just about peaking at every gig). In retrospect I wished I'd kept it and tried different cabs or slaved it to a power amp. I certainly wouldn't worry about the tag 'Hi-Fi' as the Glock I had was as full sounding as ANY amp I've tried. I would say however, that if you put sh1t into it then you'll get sh1t out but use a half decent bass (which I'm sure that you will) and it'll reward you. I believe that the 'Heart Rock' is meant to be on a par with the 'Bass Art' and if so it's one of the few amps that I'd chop my Thunderfunk in for... but then again I'd have to hear it first. JTUK
I think it will slay your Ampeg rig, but as the above poster says... it is not that forgiving of poor input and I am not that fussed about the design of the cabs but it is quality kit. I like the amps more than the cabs which remind of Boogie in terms of looks. The 4x10 and the 2x10 sounds a better bet to me than having the 1x15 but a 4x10 and 1x15 is a tight sound, IMO. Full and rich, is how I was describe the sound...but more articulate than a typical Ampeg, IMV.
cocco
Oh it will have no lack of quality input. I shall be touring my SB and either my Wizard equipped jazz or a T-40. Given that I havnt sold them all and bought something else by then. I'd take my Shuker but the band dont think it fits in with our image. wotnwhy
Had the 2x12 cab. Freakin awesome bit of kit! Now in the hands of SteveSoar, who said it was the best 2x12 he'd heard. So pretty good methinks!
bassbluestew
Used it a lot on German gigs, its top, top quality gear ( check the prices - no g'tee of quality but a good indicator ). Not big in the UK yet, except with those in the know. I used it with my Ray 5 and it sounded great.......would love to try it with my Smith !!! You'll love it ! Sandmann
i play the updated version of the heart-rock, the heart-rock II, with a 4x10 quattro and a 2x10 duo. the amp puts out 1000watts (not digital fart-watts but true transistor watts) into the 2,66 ohm of the cabs. it is a completly different animal than your ampeg svt-4 pro. it does not colour the sound of your bass very much, though it sounds not as true and uncoloured as the bass art. its VERY LOUD and always stays clean (if you want it to). it sounds very open, but always natural (not like a swr or ebs rig for example), it is extreme quick. if you push the bass-frequencies it sounds just huge, there is bass all over the place ... you can overdrive the gain-section, which sounds very good though there is no tube in this amp. it is not light (around 18kg), it is of the highest quality you can imagine. i like the look of it, also. when i got my heart-rock II i sold my aguilar db750 within a week and never looked back at it. i A/Bed it to a thunderfunk tf750a. the heart-rock is better in every aspect (though the thunderfunk ways only 11kg and is much easier to carry around). let me know if there is anything else you want to know. steve-soar
Hurray!!! Used Glock 2x12" at rehearsal tonight. Fuzz signal going into it, with clean signal going into Tech Soundsystems 6x10". Germans know how to build amazing gear. Should have bought that Glock 4x10" cab on here a few weeks ago. Ahh well.
sei24bass
Have been using a Glockenklang Bass Art Classic preamp for the past 4-5 years. Specialises in ultra clear, clean and fast, with a little very musical almost tube like warmth (never sounds hard, cold or sterile). Very deep clear powerful lows (much faster but not as weighty as an Ampeg), strong musical mids and really clear clean highs. Can do a bit of overdrive, but not really what it was designed to do. Will ruthlessly expose any defects in other equipment or your playing. I've tried most preamps over the many years I've been playing and Glockenklang is absolutely my first choice for transistor based amps.
