Hi Everyone,

I am a "failed" musician (grade 8 violin, dabbled with guitar in my teens) but I have decided to learn to play the bass, properly. I've always loved the sound of the bass and have been fascinated by the scope of the instrument in terms of musical and playing styles. I have therefore joined this forum to gain some useful info.

I'm currently looking for my first instrument. Any advice welcome!

Welcome. Plenty of 'buying your first bass' type threads on here. You will get a lot of what you need here. Try Major Minors Boot Camp for bassist. If you need any more info. there are several players in Suffolk; I am in Felixstowe :)

Hi Muttley, welcome to the site. Another Suffolk bassist here.
Don't be afraid to ask questions on here, they're a really knowledgeable, friendly bunch.
What part of the county are you in?
Good luck getting your first bass.
Steve.

Bilbo: thanks for the info re the Major's Boot Camp. I'm downloading them now :).

pikeman: West Suffolk. I'm going to pop into Sounds Plus in BSE at the w/e to look at some basses.

Quite local to me then, I'm in Lakenheath.

Welcome, fellow Suffolk dweller. You do worse than visit Darren at the bass merchant in Colchester, best dedicated bass shop outside London IMHO. No six stringy things in there.

Welcome :) If you want advice you've come to the right place. Perhaps if you re post in the General Bass Discussion section about looking for a first bass you'll get loads of replies, especially if you mention influences, styles of music etc to give people ideas. You'll be more confused after but it's what I recommend
