Happy Jack Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 http://bassbuddy.net/ Would you do this to your bass? Would you really? Quote
blind pilot Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 looks like a family of slugs are on an outing! Quote
Low End Bee Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 They look like Routemaster ashstrays. Thank god I'm a plectrum jockey. Quote
bh2 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 They look okay... no drilling and all. I'm a floater. Quote
Ou7shined Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) They aren't doing themselves any favours by adding the blingy sparkles into the pics. The product itself seems ok. Presumably you just put one on... but it looks that unlike standard thumbrests you'd have to know precisely where your thumb goes when you're playing. How much are they? Not as cheap as they look I'll bet. Edited March 11, 2011 by Ou7shined Quote
bubinga5 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) not the nicest shape but as long as you dont need to drill holes.. you can take it off yeah.. ha just noticed, slugs.. or leaches sucking the tone out of my bass...them damn tone suckers Edited March 11, 2011 by bubinga5 Quote
Norris Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Somebody been in a half-eaten wine gum fight? "Compatible with all playing styles" ... um right. Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I want the daphne blue mustang on the product info page, but without the stupid squashed slug things. Quote
Darkstrike Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Oooh! I want them! To be shipped as far away from me as possible.... Quote
Kiwi Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Get some fimo in the colour of your choice, bake the basic shape and sand to a smooth and flat finish. Sand the sticking face true and flat then apply double sided tape. Bish bosh. Quote
cocco Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I don't know about anyone else but to me those playing positions are pretty useless, if I rest my thumb on anything it's invariably the bridge pickup. Quote
xgsjx Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Oooh, I like the wee yellow LED that's in them! Quote

It's just a thumb rest for god's sake (albeit more ergonomic than the blocky ones we are used to)... and a bad advert. Who puts 3 individual thumb rests on a bass? No one, they are just showing examples. They don't have LEDs. Those are just crappy graphics. As for the positioning. You could put them anywhere you want, no one's making you do it like the pic - although individually those positions look kind of reasonable to me. True, they'd look out of place on your vintage Fender or what have you but there's a myriad of functional basses that it wouldn't. Besides no one would see it while you were playing. Having said that I wouldn't have one ... I don't get on with thumb rests. My preference is to dig in over the pup and I find thumb rests can sometimes get in the way of an up stroke. Quote
lojo Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 yes yuk may as well just stick a solid bar from the end of the next to the bridge pick up if they market it as the cheap gift for a bass players, then we'll end up with them in our stockings at xmas Quote
charic Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 If it was black on black I reckon it wouldn't look too bad. Not a terribly bad idea, just not the best looking Quote
xgsjx Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Sorry, that was just my dry humour. They should stick LEDs in them. Bling babes might then buy em! Quote
jezzaboy Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 That`s put me right in the mood for a bag of Jelly beans. Jez Quote
Lfalex v1.1 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 If you need thumbrests, you either; need to alter your technique to compensate haven't got enough pick-ups in your bass Don't have enough frets (and a long enough neck to penetrate well into the body) Quote

TRBboy Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) I've just this second finished making one for my Sandberg. Got a strip of jet black silicone rubber (6mm thick) from work and stuck it on with double sided tape. Blends in beautifully with the black pickguard, no screws, and I can always take it off leaving no marks! Just remains to be seen how long it will stay there once it gets a bit of 'gig moisture' around it! Edit: By the way, I don't have enough pickups! Edited March 14, 2011 by TRBboy Quote
