Do any Fender's not have the fender logo on the headstock?

A genuine, unadulterated Fender will always have a logo on the headstock.

That doesn't necessarily mean that having a Fender logo means the item is genuine as the logo can be faked or possibly a genuine neck on a non Fender body.

The logo could have worn off - but let's say that's not common.

Take some detailed pics of your friends bass and post them here. Someone will surely clarify that quickly! Don't forget to get the S/N and all relevant info.

The only way I see it could be legit and mostly Fender is if the neck has been refinished or just the neck replaced which I have seen many times.

Well according to many ebay sellers if it's got Squier on the headstock, it's a Fender.

I suppose by the same token it could say Heartfield as well.
