IainRoberts
Hi All, I am having a clear out and a couple of my babies need new homes. Let me know what you think: Peavey T40 £280: Nice light sunburst finish and rosewood fretboard. Well played and used but good condition for it's age. The usual pitting on the chrome and bridge. I see some T40 fans on here that probably know more than I do about them. Pickup switch is a bit noisy but some tlc will solve that in no time. Comes with original hard case. Westone Fretless Thunder 1A £190: It has an added Jazz pickup at the neck. I got it from Coda Music in the late 90s, I think they said it was a DiMarzio but I would have to look inside to see if I could verify that. It sounds great, and the modifications have been done really well to make it a PJ. The bridge is also a replacement, beautiful solid brass. I don't play it anywhere near enough these days but don't really want to let it go. Make me an offer and I may let it go to someone who will get more play out of it than I do. Again the overall finish is well used, but the neck is smooth and great to play. Please do comment. I'm not sure what the current market is like so I am happy to take offers. I also make carbon fibre necks if anybody is interested. I specialised in building skeleton sleds and raced at the last Olympics but since retiring from racing I have been making guitars and drums. Feel free to ask questions and I have some other items going in other musically related stuff (Condenser mic SE2200a £80, Yamaha AW16G 16 track studio £200, Eko 8 string Mandolin £400, carbon fibre acoustic guitar £900) Cheers, Iain
cocco
That's a low price for a rare T-40, you don't see many rosewood necked examples.
spinynorman
Yes, I'm no T40 expert, but I did a double take on that price. Put it up quick, before someone with money sees it. Edited March 17, 2011 by spinynorman
IainRoberts
Thanks guys, what do you recommend as a fair price? Jerry_B
This is where we need FlatEric... That said, some might say that the additions (thumbrest and the pickup selector switch) might sway the price slightly...

Iain
Go back to For sale: Basses and type Peavey T40 into the thread search box at the bottom left. Look at the ones marked Sold. It's up to you really. Just because we're saying hey that's a good price doesn't mean it's wrong, if you want to sell quickly and you're happy with it. You could raise the price and still be a reasonable deal, but might take longer to sell.
IainRoberts
Good advice guys, thanks. The price will stay at 280. I got it for around that anyway, so even if I got a bargain I am happy to send it on for a fair price (Good Karma all round .) Thanks for the interest, pms replied to. I am in Edinburgh but of course am happy to arrange postage. Jerry_B
Was it in that condition when you bought it? By that, I mean did it have the thumbrest and the baseball bat switch? Also, is the last fret marker (at the body end of the neck) indented, or is that just the photo?
IainRoberts
Hi Jerry, Yep, the thumbrest and switch were like that when I got it. As for the fret I think that's just the photo. I've not noticed a dent there before but will check later when I am home and let you know for certain. Probably about the right figure/a bargain. If both switches were there and of the original type, the thumbrest wasn't there and the back of the neck was in nice condtion, along with not quite so much pitting on the chrome, this would be a £400.00 to £500.00 bass. One of the same era, Maple board, Tanburst, nice condition, went for a large amount of money, sometime last year. Over £500.00, I seem to recall - I think I have a pic of that one, somewhere. Tanburst/Rosewood are not that common. As a player. . . . . Plug it in and away you go!! Somone should snap this up! Cheers.

Kev
Good fair price on the T40 i think, a couple that have been listed for sale on the forum recently have been a tad overpriced IMO. Not sure if they have gone up in value recently at all but when i was looking to buy one a couple of years ago this is about the price i would have expected to pay. Lovely bass How much are your graphite necks?? Plenty of love for the Status necks on here so you could find yourself alot of business if your prices are competitive

Selector switch was snapped off, the bridge pickup wasn't working, tuners were bent, it needed fret-dressing & a setup - as well as a bloody good clean! If you paid a tech to do the work you wouldn't get change out of £100. Worth mentioning that I sold my other SR800 (fretless) here a few years ago for £250 - so I felt the deal we did was more than reasonable. Really hope you don't feel ripped-off, mate. If I moved my T-40 on (which I'm considering, because it's spine-crushingly heavy & I can't gig it) the price would be around £280 - which definitely makes this much more unusual example a bargain in my view - if I hadn't got Dougie's old one I'd be very interested. IainRoberts
Wow, great responses going on here, both basses are still available. As for the carbon, I will probably start another thread soon as I have a lot to say about those if the interest is out there. I actually have never played a Status but obviously they are tried and tested to be damn good. At present I'm doing custom jobs on a commission basis so it depends a lot on specifications but occasionally I have demo items going for reduced prices (hence the carbon acoustic at £900, usually going for £1600...and if you want a sled that goes 90mph then £6,000). For carbon replacement necks the price I can do them for very much depends on the model and quantity. With the right demand it would be £300, but if it's a one off then more like £600. I'm hoping to make more instruments in the near future now that I no longer race Skeleton Bobsleigh so I should be able to offer more choice and better prices soon. Have a good weekend folks, time to eat before I write a journal about carbon Iain
Good fair price on the T40 i think, a couple that have been listed for sale on the forum recently have been a tad overpriced IMO. IainRoberts
Any fans of the Westone out there? I am open to offers as it has had mods. I've just been playing it this morning and tempted to hold onto it!
