I recently got a jazz bass with these strings on, and I absolutely love them - they sound fantastic. However, I've read that Fender have changed their strings since this set was made, with D'addarrio doing the manufacturing for them.

Now, don't get me wrong, I really like D'addarrio's, but this set completely floors them. So I'm looking for a decent alternative; a nickel-plated roundwound, preferably 45 - 100s. Any ideas?

you should give Galli Rockstars a try , but they have a 40 at 100(RSB43).
Fotr me one of the best sounding nickel plated rounds

Hmm, I can't find anywhere in the UK that stocks the Gallis... :) Anyone else have any ideas? I've heard good things about DR Sunbeams... I used to like their stainless Lo-Riders, but went off DRs after using the black beauties - they gave me friction burns on slides! :)

sunbeams are also good on a jb, but have a low tension, you have to like that

I recently bought a Jazz secondhand with Fenders strings on it (roundwounds with yellow wraps not sure what type of string). I was very impressed with the sound though. I feel they're a lot like DR Hi-Beams which are my favourite strings (ie pretty zingy but good punchy mids and low tension).

Here's a webpage where Ed Freidland does a comparison of the whole DR range (with sound files). It's a very handy tool to allow you to make up your mind, considering the average price of a set of Hi - Beams is almost £30.

Yeah, these have black wraps, and they're absolutely lovely! Everything about them is great, but they're starting to get dull now... :)
