ednaplate
I've just read that ebay are planning to increase their sellers fees for guitars from 3 to 10% of final selling price. So if you sell that sexy 70s jazz for £1500 they'll slap you with a bill for £150. As the boy scouts motto says "Be prepared".

hubrad
Good headsup, ednaplate; I suspect more Evilbay rants in the writing! Selling price 600, FVF was 41.55, now 60 Selling price 1500, FVF was 55.05, now 150 A few pence for listing fees. Plus is it 4% if you take Paypal?!! Hats off to a great business model, I suppose.. robocorpse
Right then, time to flood ebay with as much stuff as we can until the end of April, then everyone STOP. I am not paying those kind of fees for the risk associated with selling on their site.

I thought it had been 10% FVF for quite some time; but to a maximum of £40 ??
.. this is the first time I've quoted myself!! Was this (10% up to a max. £40) never the case?! If it was, then they're reverted back to the more complex sliding sum+% scale that (I thought) the simplified 10%/£40 was brought in to replace (without me even realising). I agree that 10% (with no limit) is going to be really too-much if you're selling something like a high-end bass or gear. For the cheaper stuff it won't be so much of a 'hit'. What's the usual commissioned-sale rate these days, from the music shops? Paypal was (?) 3.4% + 20p. Not sure if this has been changed. My advice would be: if they're going to do this, then list your bass/gear for 10/30 days, see what sort of response, questions, offers you get - then pull-it in the final 24h. There are plenty already doing this - just using the ebay site for advertising really. Many of them also include their contact (mobile) number. Use ebay to sell small/other stuff (to maintain/increase your profile & Feedback).

Happy Jack
Good call mate. I don't sell much on eBay these days, but still relieved to see that I can still use it if I ever need to.

From my own experience I was considered a business seller because my turnover of a couple of grand buying and selling guitar magazines as a hobby meant that they reclassified my account. I don't own a company or have business I just had a hobby that was lucrative for a while due to the turnover. So be aware...

Private sellers still FVF = 10% up to max £40. http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/fees.html#auction However, I'll be keeping my eye on the Updates - if they've upped one lot of fees I can't help but wonder when the rest will follow. I was amused to see the heading 'Get better value for money' above the business sellers fee changes.
