I have this

http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=goodfellow

As you can see, I kind of made a half hearted attempt to sell it, but unsurprisingly, no one wanted it. So what to do?

I have liked Shuker's Uberhorn shape since the moment I saw it. The proportions are just right. I had thought of trying to make one, and then wondered if Jon would make me one to mate with the neck on my "not quite a Godfellow". The worst he could say was no (along with "that is a body shape related to my company, why would I want to send it out to a woodwork ignoramus like you?"). He said yes! I will send him the neck, he will do the body and route it for the EMGs in the original bass and route the neck pocket. I will then take delivery of the body and sand it down to finish in oil. I mean, how hard can that be? I will be able to tell you when I finish :)

The body will be made of solid walnut and I am excited beyond!

On hold. Much to my surprise I just bought the Uberhorn in the For Sale Forum. I will probably come back to it, but I fancied seeing how the 33" scale worked on a 5 and .............. I could not stop myself. The price was right and I sure I can shift it on when the time comes to progress with this one. Unless I have both :)

It should be with me by middle of next week :)

Some luthiers are like some drummers - time is often an abstract concept rather than a linear process.

it is nice as it stands and was my main bass for many years, but it is pretty heavy and I fancied a change :) Jon has the neck and is shaping the neck pocket to fit. It is going to be lush.

what happend?
Full story?
I saw pics of something 'finished' now your only just getting it???

There is no "exciting" story (sadly). The 'finished' pics are of the neck being used on the body it was mated with before.

I see, seems like a long time for effectivily an unfinished body?

I know the guy is very busy, Shep put it in perspective for me aswell.
If you have just a body to complete, or a fairly intricate custom bass that is going to cost a couple of K. To finish, what are you going to finish first?

Been thinking of getting my new neck for my sterling done with him but if I have to wait more than a few months then it's just not an option.

I re-bought the Uberhorn which I flogged and I started sanding the new body for this yesterday. I have had the body for AGES it is not Mr Shuker's fault that it is not finished. I know that you were all gagging for an update.

I need some advice on the sanding front. I have been through the grades and reached 1000 grit which I have been doing wet and dry. This is how it looks from far away -

This is how it looks with a coat of water -

But when I get close in there is sawdust in the grain -

Will this just disappear when I get my Tru Oil from David Dykes on it? Also the curves around the seem to be a bit "cloudier" rather than the flat surfaces. Is this again just sawdust in the end grain? If so how to I get rid of it?

TIA

Thanks Ben. Meths seems to be shifting a bit of it but it is still pretty obvious. If I knew that it would "disappear" beneath Tru Oil then I could ignore it, but I have no way of knowing :(

Not the greatest photos but I am aiming to get this done before the I hit the 4 year mark! The two halves of the body are closer in colour than the pictures suggest. I am now using Danish oil + wax cos it is easier than Tru Oil and I like easier.
